Nashville, Tennessee: Where Music Lives
Nashville, though a small city, is magnified by its music powers. The city is found along the banks of River Cumberland, right at the heart of the Tennessee State. It is regarded as the capital of Country Western Music, worldwide. The genre of music traces its roots back to the 1920s when it started. As such, it is sometimes simply referred to as “Music City USA.”
Nashville is the home of the most famous “Grand Ole Opry.” It all started in 1925 with a radio show in an almost insignificant radio station airing a program that featured live country music performances. The show was one hour long and its name sprang from the fact that it was aired just before the program show Grand Opera. It then grew from there up to what we have today as country music. Nowadays, nearly all the famous record producers have a recording studio or an office in Nashville. This is the reason why the name “Music City USA” is sometimes used to refer to Nashville. The history of yesterday’s music and TV shows is now shaping the tourism industry. The Ryman Auditorium which was once the home of the original and famous show The Grand Ole Opry is now open for the public to sample out what is in the box.
“Opryland”, which is found in Music Valley, is now the new home to the Grand Ole Opry show. The area is a Nashville suburb. Tourists, especially those with a passion for country music, can be treated to tours round the studios. Those who happen to visit on either Fridays or Saturdays can partake in the taping of the shows. However, this has to be with advance ticket reservation. Other than the studio, there is the Opryland Hotel which is rated amongst the most impressive hotels in the USA. It is complete with 2,883 rooms, a casual food court, 30 shops, theme restaurants, a swimming pool and other luxuries.
Other than music, there are still other attractions that tourists can sample from Nashville downtown. First, a water taxi on Cumberland River takes one up to the Opryland dock. From the dock, visitors can sample some of the facilities the dock has to offer, and they include but not limited to boat excursions, dinner dance cruises, musical shows among other attractions. Museums that are found near the Opryland include a wax museum of country stars, a toy museum and a car museum. Visitors can also treat themselves to live country music concerts found in the clubs near the Opryland.
The other attraction in Nashville is the Wild Horse Saloon, which is so famous for country line dancing. It is located on Second Avenue. It offers weekly dances which are usually televised nationally. The feeling of one’s best moves on the dance floor being caught on national camera attracts many people to the saloon. Nashville is one of the most vibrant cities as far as country music is concerned. If one is a tourist visiting the city, all they have to do is to simply tag along and let the music play.
